It depends. The epoxy we use, MAS, is 100% solids and there aren't any dangerous fumes while you're applying it. There IS some odor, but few people find it bothersome. If you do, put on a cartridge respirator. Cured epoxy dust, created while sanding, is bad for everybody, so you should take care to contain the dust and definitely wear a mask.

I can't handle the odor of WEST System epoxy---I get throat-cold symptoms---but I've been working in close proximity with MAS day in and day out since 1994 and I don't wear a respirator except when sanding.
