thanks guys for the info as i'm a newbie to this kayak building is there a site that could walk me through the process of building what Dave Houser did with his hatches (shim stacking)as i'm more concerned about water tight integrity than looks plus i think they look fine anyway. thanks again for your replies,as it was this very forum that gave me the courage to buy the plans and start building,and it's the most satisfaction i've ever had from any project i've done. cheers Al from oz
