I'm from the independent party that happens to like the looks of the puzzle joints. I've built both ways, don't mind scarf joints in the least but have to admit the puzzle joints make alignment of panels darned near fool proof. And they make for great conversation pieces as the populace asks about your boat. I've never done anything other than a bright finish on any of my boats. The veneer work I do doesn't hide any of the joints intentionally. So I say build 'em, varnish 'em and post pics for all of us to enjoy!
