Hi Mike, Can you post a picture or a link to a picture? This may help getting good advice.
Without seeing the damage, I would assume that a good place to start it to clean the hull and then start sanding with 120 - 150 grit paper on an random orbital sander. This should give you an idea about how intact the epoxy and fiberglass are. If they seem pretty solid, I would follow this sanding with another very thorough cleaning with warm soapy water. Then after a good rinse, a close inspection for any small cracks or other evidence of the epoxy layer being compromised. This will tell you what to do next.
