You want to only partially recess the hatch to keep the rim of the hatch above the deck or install drains to the recess. The rim has a rib on the bottom-mating surface so I cut the hole in the recess bottom just larger than the outside diameter of the rib. Also make the recess wide enough to easily get your fingers in to remove the rubber hatch easily. Mine are one inch clear. 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive Sealant glues the rim adequately without screws. It comes in Mahogany color which matches okoume well enough.
