You will regret it if you do not glass the bottom of the cockpit. This is a gitty, wet, heavy wear area that needs good protection. Otherwise you will have unsightly water damage from nicks in the epoxy only coating. It is not the glass that adds appreciably to the weight of the boat. It is minimizing the fillets, bevelling the shears and deck beam, and the prudent and careful application of epoxy fill coats. Brushes and rollers lay on too much epoxy in my opinion. I would never use anything but a squeege to apply epoxy. My second build (including glassed deck, floor and hull of course weights only 49 lbs fully rigged.
