Forget the rub rail. As far as I am concerned they only add weight to the boat. A slighly rounded deck to shear contact is simple and beautiful. It will accept the deck glass wrap over and this will provide plenty of durability. The visible ply of the deck edge is really not noticable or unattractive in the end.
