Our strip kits use a plywood box-beam internal strongback. The box beam is stiffer and immune to warping. We use AC fir plywood for the box beams, with CNC-machined rabbeted corners.
I've done strip boats both ways. The compelling advantage of the internal stringer is that you can turn it every which way on the sawhorses.
