One thing that I am curious about is are you leaving the stiches in? Some plans I see call for this but I think it may be unessary and it makes it more difficult to sand the tip of the wire.

At our shop we tab between the stitches then pull the stitches after the goo has set. We then complete the fillet and tape the seam. This makes a very smooth seam w/out air pockets.

We also pull the stitches at the stems. Stitches that are glued in place we heat w/ a solder gun until they pull away. This works well, leaving a small hole that is easily filled when coating the outside of the hull.
