The spacers do need to be on the deck when you glue them though, so that they will take up the correct curvature. Don't glue them flat. The advantage of Laszlo's approach is that you can sand the outer edge of the stack much more easily, when it's not on the deck, and does not yet have the lip on top. An in-between approach is to glue the spacers to the deck, make it nice with a small fillet around the outside, then glue the lip on later. The 'do the whole thing in one operation' method saves time, but it you'll likely get a nicer job if you do it in stages.
