When I built mine I brought them together in a point - it made forming the nose block much simpler. The leading edge of my nose block is also significantly canted forward as a breakwater, as well as being quite large to be the deck partners for a Windsurfer "blue noodle" mast as part of the sail rig.
Zoom in on the photo of the yellow MC16.5 to see both the nose block and the rod holder thwart.
Look at the upper right photo.
