The water plus soap mix will have emulsified the epoxy and washed it out of the brush. Soap is alkaline (I think), but I don't know if that will have any effect on the epoxy chemistry. Vinegar definitely does. The snag about using vinegar is that you need to remove all trace of it, to avoid contaminating the next batch. I have not attempted to clean out brushes for that reason. The only bristle brushes I use for epoxy are those little 1/2" acid brushes. Plastic spreaders are easy to clean, and foam rollers and brushes are cheap enough to not bother. I have leaned the hard way not to re-use mixing pots, since there's always some little flakes of old epoxy that'll mess up the new mix.
