I also have both. Jim is dead on about how to use them. One caution about the bonsai saw, though. If you let the blade flex while you cut, it eventually breaks right at the handle through fatigue failure. So don't cut faster than the material will let you. Haven't had that problem with the Japanese saw.
Speaking of which, since I bought my Japanese saw, I haven't used any of my western saws for anything. I guess that's how the Greenland paddle folks feel when they convert from europaddles.
