Good ideas Doug and Jon. I figured modifications to the cockpit would degrade the structural integrity of the boat. But, perhaps it is possible. Considering the added effort and possible expense, I would probably just select a different boat, like the Eider open double Jon T. suggested. However, the Eider actually cost $1,200 plus shipping, whereas the CLC doubles are around $1,000. Plus, I would rather buy from CLC, so I was hoping one of their boats could work.

Now I'm wondering if the Mill Creek 13 or 15 would work to hold a child passenger since the cockpit is quite long (although narrowing at the front). It doesn't look like the Mill Creek 15 is offered anymore, though.
