Bob, I ran into that on my Ches 16 after the kit seat was glued in. I don't recall exactly what I used to cut the hole, but I added a drain hole only on the front. If I had to do it today I would use my Bansai saw from CLC, or dowel saw, both of which have internal kerf so you won't damage the wood when cutting between the seat and kayak bottom. Separate the seat from the boat to the minimun required to make the verticle cuts. The bansai is pointy which helps in making the verticle cuts.
