Adam, Based on the marginal hatch hold down method you describe you may be able to apply the 3 athwardship strap/buckles used on the Chesapeake model, for example, to provide sufficient sealing along the outer edges. If the curvarture of the hatch is way off and the 3 strap method still doesn't seal then you need to recurve the hatch. I looked, but could not find, a post describing how to make verticle cuts into the rib of the hatch so it can be bent easily to match the curve of the deck.
If you'd rather wait until the off season to do this, there is always good ol' duct tape in a pinch.
