Michael, Yes the raw edge of the ply deck is visible. Scroll down to the 2nd photo of the chesapeake 17 gallery link below.

That raw edge and the nails into the sheer clamp are the main reasons you frequently see topside paint wrapped an inch or so onto the deck. But as the link shows, it is not detrimental and the contrasting color even accentuates the sheer line.
