I have a CH16 and have not paddled an LT. However, I really don't have any problems in all types of winds. She weathercocks only just the right amount and goes where I point her (without rudder). The Ches is by no means a skinny boat, but I really love the volume for gear. I can even get a full 20 litre drybag into the rear hatch - plus 2-person tent, thermorest, 10 litre food drybag and stuff-sack of kitchen stuff. And then there is the front hatch! So if you are a light traveler the LT would work fine I'm sure. I have seen several posts describing extended trips with 17LTs.
