Gene,

Go with the manual. You'll notice that the instructions are slightly different for Plans builders and Kit builders. The manual makes it clear which measurements to use depending on building from plans or a kit. And although Kurt may use an ax to rough out his boats it's not the recommended method!

Hey, Kurt! Did you ever finish the canoe? Where's the pix? I'd like to see what you've been up to myself. And I've got to start getting ready for the next bash! Only got nine months or so after all.
