Since no one else is answering I'll jump in.
That difference in length is OK as long as it's symmetrical on both sides. Since there'll be glass inside and out at the seam, the consistent thickness is not as important as in a purely wooden boat. If the seam turns out to have a gap, it'll be filled by epoxy. If it's thicker it can be sanded to an even width, though that'll be visible if finished bright.
