LOL- I used staves that

were 3/8 by 1/2 inch, and tapered after the mouth was cut.
The ends were cut into a curve using a spoke shave and the blades glued in ( epoxy) made from 4 MM Okume. Finbished size was SLIGHTLY under 1 inch on the center of the shafts- tapered to about 3/4 at the blades.
If this picture works, here's what the end of the stave looks like pre tapering- I'll try to get a shot of the blade/shaft junction for you later.
