Heya, mac

I'm getting into this a little late. I built a 17 TK-1 trainer from plans for under $300 CAD using 4 mm okhume plytwood, West System Epoxy and built my own footbraces. Now, the lines aren't perfect due to my powerful sense of impatience but it can be done on the cheap with the appropriate amount of care. This kayak does not have a coaming since it didn't need one but that could have easily been built out of the left overs. Because I always have a project going, I can easily use any left overs from one project to do another. Carefully laid out plans can produce a 17' kayak from three sheets of 4x8 plywood. That is all I used. There have been quite a few guys at the Guillemot site who build only from plans because and only because they can so it so cheaply, usually for the price I quoted above or less.

On another topic, how have you been doing? Have you been paddling lately? I managed to get out last Sunday for 5 hours. One hour downstream, 4 to get back to the car.
