Ahh.....sounds familiar. I had the same problem on my 17. The plan dimensions and directions need to be corrected. My coaming was larger than the opening between the deck beam and the rear bulkhead. My solution: I placed the back(inside) edge of the coaming flush w/ the stern face of the deck beam. Then I built up the inside face of the rear part of the coaming w/ scrap plywood, stacked similarly as are the coaming and spacers, so it blends in fairly well. When I got it formed,sanded down, sealed and varnished, it looks pretty nice. Hope this helps.
