Sudden thought. Since rounding the end a good bit is a good idea, but I don't like shaving it down to the end pour, I wondered about actually chopping off an inch or so and carving an end post with little recesses for the panels to fit in. You could even make it a bit tall and carve a pretty shape on it.

I saw one all stripper with a loon head on the bow.

I'm going to have to think about that.
