Shearwater 17 Deck Fit

Posted by Gene Prather on May 6, 2007

I am building the standard Shearwater 17 and am at the stage where you test fit the deck to the hull before tacking with epoxy. I figure that there is only one chance to get this correct and have a question.

The deck comes to a very fine point and at the bow and stern the top edge of the hull sides are about 1/16" wider on each side.

I know that you round the bow and stern to a 1/4" radius. But, should I work on the taper of the inside edges of the hull so that there is no "step" between the deck and the sides?

Perhaps just fill with thickened epoxy prior to fiberglassing?
