I have both set ups but prefer the separate belt system for sea kayaking. With that system or jamb cleats (I put them on all my kayaks) on your kayak, you can trade the towing around if necessary. These systems work better when you have to throw too. If it is built into your PFD, you usually end up doing all the towing. The PFD with built in belt and back D ring is great for river rescue and white water rafting/kayaking. Randy
