Scarf Joint on Deck

Posted by Jim C. on Apr 13, 2007

The other night I glued the small scarf joint on the deck bow piece. I was working in a poorly lit area and not careful enough and didn't have the joint properly lined up so that the thin edge of the top board was all the way up to the thick edge on the bottom board. So now I have about 1/8" to 3/16" wide joint across the boards that is high on one side of the plywood and low on the other side.

Which side should I use on top for the deck? High side and sand it down smooth? Or low side and build with epoxy?

Thanks,

Jim
