'Glassing With Tape

I'm on the verge of gluing the seams of my Millcreek 16. I will likely tab between the stitches, then "cut and run" after the tabs have cured. After running the fillets, I had a question re. the 'glass tape. I have read on an earlier post that it was easier to wet the tape first (on plastic) before applying it to the fillets. Apparently it helped to keep the tape much more smooth, and facilitated the process a great deal. Any comments regarding this as opposed to simply applying the tpae w/out "pre-wetting"?
