Mac your poor man. Feet of snow at the end of March! You're living in the polar ice cap there.
One word about your rubrail trick. It's probably not a good idea for boats that depend on the deck glass to help hold the deck onto the hull. For example, chessies that are built without deck nails. The reason is because for structural purposes you need a 2 inch overlap.
But for boats with nails, taped seams, etc., anywhere that the cloth is non-structural, that's a great idea. It also stops the pooling of water between the rubrail and deck edge.
