I press a piece of maybe 6 mil plastic sheet on top of the edge and that holds it down nicely.

You can really achieve a high glass/resin ratio putting plastic sheet over the wetted glass and using a squee-gee to squeeze the resin out. It really is vacuum bagging w/o the pump. Also gives you a real smooth surface.
