Final Sanding

I'm at the sanding stage on my 17. To achieve a smooth finish on the sides, I'm getting down to the cloth so it is visible. I don't like the looks of this fabric. I understand that varnish won't make the visible cloth disappear, but more epoxy will. I don't want to put more epoxy on because I'll have to sand again. Is there a way to thin the epoxy, brush it on so it will only require a very light sanding? My last resort will be to paint the sides, which I don't want to do.
