It's possible that different brands of epoxy contain differing amounts of solvents harmful to foam brushes, but foam brushes themselves are not all the same. Fortunately they are cheap enough that you can experiment to find the right type, or switch to a fresh one when the brush in your hand goes floppy.
Laszlo's comments about hand tools are spot-on. I would add that hand tools, apart from being less stressful, are simply more satisfying to use.
