Your furnace is in the basement. It uses air from the basement and so will send the vapours throughout your home. Tape plastic sheeting around your fan, aim it out the window and leave it on till the paint dries and you can paint all you want with minimal instrusion of fumes in teh house, unless, of course, the fresh air intake for your furnace is near the window.
