How about installing a pedalling/fin propulsion unit as a backup? (as per recent posts) This keeps the hands free for working all of your lines...
Hobie has a unit that was discussed recently - I didn't think much of the concept or design until I saw it in use by someone kayak fishing. It works as well, if not better than, paddling.
Also, for a more tradional/artisan design, look up Harry Bryan's 'fin-boat' design on the web... Harry teaches at the Wooden Boat school in Maine, as well as designing and building boats.
Your design is so unique that it raises many questions on how to achieve various functions....can't wait to see/hear how it performs....
Thanks for trying something original/unique and sharing it with everyone.
