I had no end of trouble sourcing wire in Australia, at any price. Then, I found myself in an elecrical supplies store, staring at the green-and-yellow earth wire used in any house buildng project. It has seven cores of perfect 1mm copper wire and is easy to remove the outer case. Best of all, it cost about 5c per metre (or 'yard' for you Americans who remain tied to the quaint British system of miles, hogsheads and thruppences or whatever!). Problemo solvo maximo!
