Ron, Since you will probably be fastening (screwing or nailing) the planks to the frame I don't think that plywood is for this since fasteners in the edge of ply do not hold good enough. Oak has the best holding power, but is heavy and pricey. I'm not sure what wood they suggest, but readily available fir would work. Contact your local lumber yard (NOT Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) tell them what you're doing and they will make some suggests to fit your budget.
