As far as I can tell pine is fine for most kind of works. Strenght qualitys is a bit better than spruce, and also weather-resistance when used outdoor is somewhat better then most european species except high-density wood like oak etc. When painted the knots might "bleed" through the paint, you kan avoid this by varnishing over the knots before painting. When it comes to pine plywood for boatbuilding, the problem with the plywood accessible here in Norway is a low-quality B-side with knotholes etc. It is also bit heavier compared to other plywoods suitable for boatbuilding. For your use this should have no affect.
