I think Norm Abram (New Yankee Workshop) would consider himself a carpenter with respect for his craft. He uses them frequently. Nail guns, when used properly, can be very useful in the assembly of fine furniture. They should not be used as a replacement for good construction techniques. And they are uniquely well suited to tack something that is difficult or tedious to clamp and there should be no visible evidence of their use. If used on a kayak sheer clamp the nails would be totally encapsulated by epoxy and not visible. Weight penalty would be measured in grams. I didn't nail the deck on my last boat(epoxy only) so I am saving weight there. Your response sounds kind of like dogma to me.
