You really do not need a screw through the side and into the deck beam. I leave the screws and use a bar clamp to hold the sides to the beam while the epoxy hardens. Once the deck is on it acts like a gusset to secure the beam to the shear clamps. The screws are a left over from the tortured plywood designs where the sides had to be pulled together and held in by the beam.
