Yes, some manufacturers were fudging the term "waterproof", so submersible is the term now being used for electronics that can be fully immersed to a certain depth for a certain amount of time. To clarify my earlier comments, you definitely want a "submersible" rating.

I have seen some offerings by Standard and Icom with what appear to be good, gasketed AA battery packs.
