stretching Mill Creek

Posted by Woodie on Nov 1, 2006

I made a shorter/wider Chesapeake. It was a real adventure. The final push to do this came from something Chris said in his book The Kayak Shop: "If you can't find plans or a kit for the boat you want, build it anyway".

First I did a scale model, then a cardboard one (full size), next a scrap wood boat and then a second one for my wife. At each step there were changes that had to be made before the next one was made. You will learn a lot. It is not a simple matter in S&G to "just stretch" a design. We now have 2 boats we are very happy with.

These were the 5th & 6th S&G boats I have built not the first. Good luck!
