I believe CLC doesn't like acetone due to possible contamination. I have found that any cheap (big box store) solvent is prone to containing contaminants. Also, try a test. Get a piece of plexiglass and wipe a section with lacquer thinner and one with acetone. The lacquer thinner will etch the plexi and discolor it considerably worse than the acetone will. When wiping epoxy with lacquer thinner, you want it to softener the surface and prep it for varnish. It (and acetone) evaporate so quickly that they do not cause any damage. Lacquer thinner is awful harsh for varnish, but it may be easier to find a quality product that does not contain any contaminants.
