I just spent time on another site and found these; http://robroy.dyndns.info/baidarka/swish-search.php?word=bamboo A lot of folks, including Nick Schade (in 1995), have been scratching their heads over the use of bamboo but, not much evidence that anyone has gotten one into the water and is willing to give a testimonial about it. Time marches on.
