Jim, I believe WEST systems does a graphite filler for epoxy, so look for it at West Marine if you have one near you. Yes, you should use it in the smoothing coats, and do as nice a job as you can because it's reportedly hard to sand. Another tough thing is dynel, wich is a tough polyester cloth commonly used to sheath hulls that expect to do some, er, sledding. CLC use it in their keel rubstrip kits See the link. It's the keel that takes the most punishment.
