You do see a mesh-like appearance once in awhile in the final finishing stages. It's always alarming, but only under rare circumstances would it be visible in the finished boat.

Here's a trick I use a lot: to get a preview of what a patch of the boat is going to look like beneath varnish, swipe the area with a clean rag and denatured alcohol. In the few moments before the alcohol evaporates, you'll see what it looks like under varnish.
