Hear, hear... I agree with Laszlo 100%. The differences between one piece of wood and another are something to be celebrated, rather than worried about.

I'm all for things like book matching and trying to design patterns etc. However, There is another train of thought, that maybe has an element of Zen to it. Just allow the wood to make the choice, and go with the flow. Whatever patterns of differences in wood shading and grain texture show up, let it ride. Admittedly this method is more dramatic with strip built boats, but anyone looking at your finely finished piece of work is going to be awed by the fact that you did it yourself anyway. Relax, enjoy the ride.
