Ok, what about veneer strips such as this: http://www.bambootrade.net/product.asp?id=103 These are wafer-thin veneers (0.25mm - 0.60mm) - probably too thin for your intended use here. Still, it's flexible and easy to work with; laminated on your deck it would look very nice.
