I found the hot nail had another purpose in that it bonded together the folded webbing at the hole and made it that much easier to handle when installing on the boat. As mentioned already, using a pre-drilled board for the hot nail to seat into is the easiest way. I secured the nail in vise grips and my daughter heated the nail over a propane torch until red-hot, then handed it off to me....good production line - 2 boats X 26 polypropolene loops in about 2 hours.
