Matt To get a deep satin finish all you need to do is break the gloss from your Varnish surface. After you apply the 5 or 6 coats of marine varnish, sand the deck with 400 and 600 wet paper. Then polish by hand or with one of those orbital car polishers until you get the satin finish you want. My last 2 boats were done that way mostly out of necessity to get rid of the dust I can’t keep out of the varnish. Walt
