I took 4 pieces of hardwood and routed out a 1 1/2" u-shape the same size as the ends of the brackets. I epoxied these to the inside of the hull and then toook a thin (1/4" or so) piece of aluminum and covered the u-shape so the bracket couldn't come out. I fastened it with screws, however so if I needed to get it out I could.

I don't have any photos handy but if you'd like I can get one taken in a day or two if I can jam the camera in there somehow
